‘Toy Story 4’ will be the last in the popular series as revealed by Pixar president Jim Morris. He explained that the studio is looking to produce more original content instead of following a usual business model that involves rolling out sequels.
According to Game Spot, the upcoming fourth installment of the adventures of Woody and Buzz Lightyear will be the final film in the popular 3D animated franchise. Similarly, ‘Cars 3’ and ‘Incredibles 2’ will not be receiving any more sequels. Pixar also announced that no plans have been made for follow-ups to ‘Wall-E’ and ‘Ratatouille’.
Pixar president Jim Morris explained that this new strategy is geared towards the creation of original content. He said, "Everything after Toy Story [4]and The Incredibles [2] is an original right now… Most studios jump on doing a sequel as soon as they have a successful film, but our business model is a filmmaker model, and we don't make a sequel unless the director of the original film has an idea that they like and are willing to go forward on.”
He added, "A sequel in some regards is even harder [than the original] because you’ve got this defined world which, on the one hand, is a leg up, and on the other hand has expectations that you can't disappoint on."
According to Chatt Sports Net, two new original releases have already been scheduled for 2020. These remain untitled as of the present.
The studio’s latest animated release, ‘Finding Dory’, is the sequel to 2003’s ‘Finding Nemo’. It received critical acclaim as well as commercial success. It grossed $570.17 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo.
‘Toy Story 4’ is an upcoming 3D animated romantic comedy film intended as the follow-up to the 2010 film ‘Toy Story 3’. It is directed by John Lasseter and Josh Cooley and is scheduled to be released on June 15, 2018 in the United States.
It features Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, Joan Cusack as Jesse, Bonnie Hunt as Dolly, Annie Potts as Bo Beep, and Don Rickles as Mr. Potato Head among others. It is produced by Pixar Animation Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
