Poland may soon gain full access to U.S.-designed AI chips as the Trump administration considers lifting export restrictions, Deputy Digital Minister Dariusz Standerski said Wednesday.

In the final days of President Joe Biden’s term, the U.S. imposed AI chip export controls, granting unrestricted access to domestic companies while limiting supply to 120 countries, including Poland. Nations such as Japan, the U.K., and France were largely exempt, while China, Russia, and Iran were completely barred.

Standerski criticized Biden’s decision as “irresponsible” and said the previous administration failed to explain why Poland was placed in tier two. However, discussions with Trump’s team have been “very constructive,” raising hopes that Poland could be moved to tier one. The consultation period runs until May 15.

Polish Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski recently discussed the issue with U.S. Vice President JD Vance during the AI Action Summit in Paris. Tech giants, including Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), have urged the Trump administration to ease restrictions for key U.S. allies.

Standerski also noted that Poland could receive backing from the European Commission, which argues that the EU should have unrestricted access to advanced AI chips.

The White House and U.S. Commerce Department have yet to comment on the matter.
