U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that a decision regarding Iran's nuclear program is imminent, following what both sides described as "constructive" and "positive" talks held in Oman. These discussions marked the first formal engagement between Iran and Trump during his current term and signaled a possible thaw in long-standing tensions.
Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump confirmed that he had met with his national security team to assess the situation. “We’ll be making a decision on Iran very quickly,” he said, without disclosing specifics.
The negotiations in Oman were characterized by a “productive, calm, and positive atmosphere,” according to officials familiar with the discussions. Both Washington and Tehran have agreed to reconvene later this week, with Axios reporting that the next round of nuclear talks is scheduled for Saturday in Rome.
Trump, who has maintained a hardline stance on Iran’s nuclear ambitions, previously warned that military action remains on the table if diplomatic efforts fail. However, his recent comments reflect a cautiously optimistic tone. “The Iran situation is going pretty good, I think,” he noted. “Nothing matters until you get it done, so I don’t like talking about it, but it’s going okay.”
The renewed dialogue signals a potential shift in U.S.-Iran relations, as both parties weigh the prospects of reviving a nuclear agreement and easing regional tensions. While the outcome remains uncertain, the swift scheduling of follow-up talks suggests momentum is building toward a resolution.
As global eyes remain fixed on the unfolding U.S.-Iran negotiations, any breakthrough could significantly impact Middle East stability and international nuclear diplomacy, with Saturday’s Rome meeting poised as a critical juncture in the ongoing efforts.
