US under Trump Series: Trump to start renegotiating NAFTA this month

The 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump is ready to follow through his campaign promises and at the earliest. Donald Trump has announced that he will start the process of renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) dubbed as the single biggest job killer during the campaign by him, "We're meeting with the prime minister of Canada and we will be meeting with the president of Mexico, who I know, and we're going to start some negotiations having to do with NAFTA…….We are going to start renegotiating on NAFTA, on immigration and on security at the border." NAFTA was signed by the governments of US, Canada, and Mexico in January 1994. The agreement covers trade between the three countries.

President Trump is scheduled to meet the Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto on January 31st. The meeting between him and the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is yet to be scheduled but will soon be arranged. According to White House, if the two countries refuse to renegotiate NAFTA to give Americans a fair trade deal, President will sign his intent to withdraw from NAFTA.
