The much-awaited sequel of “The Division” was announced by Ubisoft at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2018 on Monday, and it paints a picture of Washington, D.C. caught in a devastating civil war.

“The Division 2” follows the events of the first game. This means that players will pick up the devastation from the virus plague that started in New York. Players will still assume a role in the titular team of agents to help fight enemies in the hope of rebuilding the country.

The game features a realistic representation of the capital but in a completely different scenario. In a two-minute gameplay trailer revealed at E3, the city that houses some of the most powerful government institutions have been overrun with members of armed enemy factions. The Air Force One plane is rendered unusable after being literally cut in half, while the Washington Monument shows remnants of heavy gunfire.

The highlight of “The Division 2’s” announcement is the addition of raids — a first for the video game franchise. “These challenging missions will test the skill, communication, and teamwork of even the most expert Agents,” Ubisoft said in a blog post.

Another gameplay improvement in “The Division 2” is the ability to continuously play even after finishing Level 30 of the campaign. From there, players can select from an array of Specializations, namely Sharpshooter, Demolitionist, and Survivalist.

“Each Specialization ... comes with its own progression path. These paths introduce new skill mods, talents, and tools, including brand new signature weapons,” Ubisoft explained. This means that players can proceed to customize their agent even after completing the level cap.

Another great news confirmed by Ubisoft is the addition of post-launch content, including new narrative-focused missions, maps, and game modes. To make it even better, Ubisoft promised they can be accessed for free.

“The Division” is set to be released on March 15, 2019 for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
