To say that “Warcraft 3: Reforged” had one of the most controversial video game launches in 2020 would be an understatement. Not all reports about the remastered real-time strategy title have been flattering, and it might be making other fans wonder if it is worth their time and money.
‘Warcraft 3: Reforged’ reviews, issues
Luckily, there are ways a fan can decide whether or not to get “Warcraft 3: Reforged” before even spending money on it. For one, they can look through thousands of user reviews available online. But those hoping to play the game might not like what they find.
Since the launch of “Warcraft 3: Reforged” in late January, the game’s user review on Metacritic has not even reached a full score of 1. As of this writing, the overall score is 0.6 out of 29,903 ratings. One fan listed the gameplay features that were reportedly removed on “Warcraft 3: Reforged” such as LAN functionality, chat options with players on other games like “Diablo 2,” lack of custom campaigns, missing “promised new cutscenes, and customer game filter removed among others.
However, over a thousand fans still gave “Warcraft 3: Reforged” positive reviews on Metacritic. One fan, who rated the game 10 out of 10, said they still enjoyed playing it even though it “came out a bit different” than what players were led to believe.
‘Warcraft 3: Reforged’ first pro tournament filled with bugs, desyncs
Last February, “Warcraft 3: Reforged” was put on its first ultimate test as a game when it was played in its first professional and major tournament. Unfortunately, the game did not perform smoothly as well and even led to a controversial result.
“Warcraft 3: Reforged’s” bugs manifested several times during the event affecting the strategy of the up-and-coming pro gamer Marcus "ThorZain" Eklöf against the veteran Jang "Moon" Jae-ho. In the quarter final round, ThorZain played well and was reportedly on the verge of winning until the game disconnected. The issue persisted a couple of times, prompting the match to be restarted, but others suggest it may have revealed ThorZain’s strategy and ultimately causing him the tournament.
The thousands of reviews and the game’s performance in a public setting say plenty of things about the title’s quality. But, at the end of the day, it is the choice of every video game fan whether to take a risk on a game like “Warcraft 3: Reforged.”
