Some may be thinking that “Warcraft 3: Reforged” still has a long way to go before it becomes the game they expected to see launching earlier this year. On a positive note, Blizzard Entertainment has recently addressed gamers’ concerns by providing more detailed plans in overhauling matchmaking systems for 1v1 and Team Games.
‘Warcraft 3: Reforged’ MMR will help to produce ‘most competitive’ 1v1 matches
Upon the release of “Warcraft 3: Reforged” in late January, fans have valid complaints about the game ranging from persistent desync issues to missing gameplay features. While Blizzard has already dismissed any hopes for completely revamped cutscenes, it promised to deliver the features crucial for a complete gaming experience that some relate to matchmaking.
The treatment of Matchmaking Rating plays a huge role in the way “Warcraft 3: Reforged” will pair players, especially for 1v1 games. As Blizzard put it in the latest Developer Update, “1v1 will have the most stringent matchmaking parameters as this game mode is all about individual performance.”
“Warcraft 3: Reforged” is now designed to let players with higher MMR enter very challenging matches. This is made possible by practically making sure the search parameters take into consideration the MMR. It may, however, result in longer queues but Blizzard promised the system will become less strict over time.
Changes planned for ‘Warcraft 3: Reforged’ Arranged Teams
MMR will also be considered differently when queuing for Team Matches including 2v2, 3v3, and 4v4 for the simple reason that MMR does not directly affect these games unlike in 1v1. But Arranged Teams are not affected by one of the biggest changes in “Warcraft 3: Reforged” from the legacy version – tracking per race.
That does not necessarily mean Arranged Team will not have MMR tracking, though. Arranged Teams will have a separate MMR system. This also means any games played in this setup will not affect the individual MMR of every team member. Players can then play in different races in Arranged Teams matches. And when Ranked Ladders arrive in “Warcraft 3: Reforged,” Blizzard promised to launch a separate Arranged Teams leaderboards as well.
Players can still queue up as a partially organized group or Random Teams and let the matchmaking system complete their team. In this case, the system will rate them based on individual MMR. “Warcraft 3: Reforged,” unlike the original game, will allow Arranged Teams to be matched up against Random Teams.
