The last few months in video game news might have been dominated by discussions about Battle Royale, eSports, and the future of consoles, but there are still occasions where the focus is just on games themselves. In one instance, gamers have been paying attention to two titles called Battletech and Frostpunk, both of which just launched following months of anticipation.
As Windows Central reports, both Battletech and Frostpunk are now out on PC at $39.99 and $29.99, respectively. Both are strategy games with complex, in-depth mechanics for players to master and take advantage of.
Battletech involves the use of giant robots that the game’s characters ride and fight with, in the year 3025. It seems there is a galaxy-wide war going on and using a turn-based battle system, players will need to fight their way towards a resolution.
On the other hand, Frostpunk is all about city-building, wherein characters will be tasked to create a society and gather supplies to survive their frigid environment. The game’s mechanics revolve around using steam technology to hold back the cold from overwhelming the struggling civilization.
So far, feedback about the games has been relatively positive, with some minor gripes about technical issues being the most common complaints. At PC World, Hayden Dingman shares his experience in playing Battletech, which he has been doing since it entered beta.
Now that it’s officially out, he notes that while the game is an incredible tactical title, it still has a few bugs that it needs to work on. Likewise, reviews for Frostpunk have been largely warm for a game set in such frigid temperatures.
In its review, Kotaku notes that the game is a great city-building and survival simulator, with all of the tension that living in such bleak conditions naturally involve. Basically, it’s perfect for those who like to imagine what it would be like to live in the world where the universe is literally trying to kill you every day.
