Why Online is More Than a Trend for Business

Ever since the Boston Computer Exchange and Minitel launched their online businesses in the 1980s, the world of ecommerce has continued to grow at a rapid rate. Today, you can purchase almost anything online. And with brands such as Amazon and eBay amongst the biggest in the world, it’s clear to see that online businesses are much more than a passing trend.

If you’re not already online or are still considering moving into ecommerce, keep reading to discover why online is more than a trend for business, with practices like pay-per-click advertising and off-page SEO here to stay.

Increased need for availability

As society changes and the daily pace for many has increased, people are left with less time and more of a need for convenience. And logging in to your computer, tablet or smartphone to purchase a product is seemingly much easier than heading to a store. The majority of ecommerce websites now offer two-day or next-day delivery, meaning you’re not waiting around for your products either.

Social media growth

In 2020, more than half of people in the world use some form of social media. Not only can you use social media to promote your website or engage with customers, being on social media can now be a business in itself. Social media ‘influencers’ can now make a living promoting brands, sharing links and engaging with their followers on social media alone. And the social media world doesn’t show any signs of slowing down, with online businesses growing alongside it.

Eco-friendly focus

As we grow more aware of environmental issues across the globe, many of us are focused on reducing their environmental impact in the choices they make. From choosing products made from recycled materials to increasing working from home, there are a number of ways in which online business can be more eco-friendly. If your business is solely online, you automatically reduce lighting, electricity and fuel use for your employees.

Global reach

We are much more in touch with and have more access to the rest of the world, meaning online businesses have a much larger potential customer base. With 88% of the US market using Google as their primary search engine, having an online business that ranks highly on Google can prove to be highly profitable. Online businesses mean we can access goods and products from overseas easily and at a relatively low cost, that we may not have access to otherwise.
