‘Wonder Woman’ Adaptation with Gal Gadot Wraps Filming Ahead of Scheduled 2017 Release; Original Star Lynda Carter Gets Excited

Gal Gadot stars as Diana Prince in Patty Jenkin's upcoming superhero film 'Wonder Woman'

‘Wonder Woman’ is set to feature Gal Gadot as the titular superheroine in DC’s upcoming standalone film. Filming for director Patty Jenkins’ big screen adaptation officially wrapped ahead of its scheduled 2017 release. Meanwhile, original star Lynda Carter expressed her excitement over the new film.

According to Collider, Gadot took to Instagram to officially announce the end of principal photography for her upcoming standalone film in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). She posted a photograph of herself with the caption, “Today was my last day shooting the solo @wonderwomanfilm! It's been such an amazing, exciting, dreamy, happy and fascinating experience I will cherish it forever. Thank you to everyone who was involved, our amazing cast, crew and phenomenal director.”

She is reportedly shifting her attention on another upcoming DCEU project, ‘The Justice League Part One’, scheduled to be released in November 2017. Gadot was first introduced as Diana Prince a.k.a. Wonder Woman in Zack Snyder’s recent release ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’. The film also starred Henry Cavill as Clark Kent a.k.a. Superman and Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne a.k.a. Batman.

According to Cosmic Book News, Gadot offered some insight on her superheroine by saying that the new film will serve as an origin story. She explained, "She’s not American – she comes from Themyscira, where she’s raised by her mother [Connie Nielsen’s Queen Hippolyta] and all the other Amazons. She’s never seen a man in her entire life. This is the journey of her coming of age, of how she sees the world through different eyes.” The actress teased that the new film will also feature epic fight scenes and will be a mix of fantasy and historical reality.

Director Patty Jenkins added, “I feel like we’re not the first people to have female fighting going on, but I feel that something very successful has come together here that is fully feminine, but still incredibly strong and sexy.”

The upcoming film is reportedly running under a production budget of $100 million, according to Comic Book Resources. This makes Jenkins the first woman to direct a “summer tent pole superhero movie" that may prove rather successful at the box office.

Meanwhile, Lynda Carter expressed her excitement for Jenkins’ upcoming full-feature film adaptation. According to Cinema Blend, she said, “I think that they needed a woman director, and they needed the focus to be about the story of who she is. And I think they got that. So from what I understand, it’s going to be great. I can’t wait!” The 64-year old actress and beauty queen played the iconic heroine in the popular television series of the same name that ran in the 1970s.

‘Wonder Woman’ is scheduled to premiere on June 2, 2017. It is produced by Charles Roven, Zack Snyder, and Deborah Snyder. Wesley Coller, Geoff Johns, Stephen Jones, Rebecca Steel Roven, and Richard Suckle are executive producing. It is produced by DC Entertainment, Warner Bros., Atlas Entertainment, Cruel and Unusual Films, and Dune Entertainment.
