In particular investigating adventitious (stem-formed) roots to understand how they develop and function - how are they triggered in normal development or by stressful environments, how do they take up nutrients and water and what that means for the whole plant. Currently funded by the Forestry Commission Tree Production Innovation Fund, Innovate UK Knowledge Transfer Partnership with Whetman Plants International and Royal Society International Exchange grant.
