’13 Reasons Why’ season 2 may feature a school shooting, according to a popular fan theory. Meanwhile, Netflix revealed that the upcoming season would follow the characters’ journeys towards healing in the aftermath of Hannah’s suicide.
According to Heat World, numerous fan theories for the controversial yet critically-acclaimed American mystery-drama television series have exploded online, with the most popular one being that season 2 will feature a school shooting. One viewer with the Reddit username tamara1781 suggested that the second season would be told through the perspectives of various characters, who are victims of the shooting.
Another theory suggested that Alex (Miles Heizer) would become the second season’s main character, taking the place of Katherine Langford’s main protagonist and storyteller Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford). Alex was last seen being taken away in an ambulance after what presumably was attempted suicide.
According to Rolling Stone, Netflix has recently renewed season 2, which is expected for release sometime in 2018. The web streaming service revealed in a statement that the upcoming season "picks up in the aftermath of Hannah Baker's death and the start of the characters' complicated journeys toward healing and recovery."
It remains unclear how the new storyline will unfold but showrunner Bryan Yorkey assured fans that Langford will be returning for a second season. The series is based on the 2007 novel ‘Thirteen Reasons Why’ authored by Jay Asher. It follows a high school student, Clay (Dylan Minnette), who received seven cassette tapes recorded by his friend Hannah, who committed suicide two weeks earlier.
Meanwhile, actress Amy Hargreaves admitted that she didn’t think executive producer Selena Gomez would make an actual appearance on season 2. According to ABC News, she said that should Gomez appear on the small screen, it would be too distracting for viewers to focus on the story. Hargreaves said, "It would kinda distract from the main story… So I can't imagine that she would pop up for a cameo, but who knows? You never know."
’13 Reasons Why’ season 2 is scheduled to premiere on Netflix sometime in 2018. It was renewed last May 2017.
