SEATTLE, March 28, 2017 -- The 30-year fixed mortgage rate on Zillow® Mortgages is currently 3.90 percent, down nine percentage points from this time last week. The 30-year fixed mortgage rate hovered between 3.90 percent and 3.98 for most of the week before settling at the current rate.
“Mortgage rates were particularly volatile last week driven by political uncertainty in the United States and are now at lowest levels since late February,” said Erin Lantz, vice president of mortgages at Zillow. “The Republican retreat on changes to the Affordable Care Act has cast doubt on Congress’ ability to enact broader economic legislation – notably tax reform – that could boost growth. This pushed investors toward safer assets in expectation of less economic stimulus in the years ahead. This week, political drama could again drive rates though several Fed speeches and inflation data due Friday could also move markets.”
Zillow’s real-time mortgage rates are based on thousands of custom mortgage quotes submitted daily to anonymous borrowers on the Zillow Mortgages site and reflect the most recent changes in the market. These are not marketing rates, or a weekly survey.
The rate for a 15-year fixed home loan is currently 3.11 percent, while the rate for a 5-1 adjustable-rate mortgage (ARM) is 2.92 percent.
