SEATTLE, Jan. 03, 2017 -- The 30-year fixed mortgage rate on Zillow® Mortgages is currently 3.96 percent, down 14 basis points from this time last week. The 30-year fixed mortgage fell early last week, then hovered around the current rate for the rest of the week.
“Mortgage rates fell by about 15 basis points last week due to unexpectedly strong demand for U.S. government debt – which is closely tied to mortgage rates – and lenders rolling back the conservative pricing put in place going into the Christmas weekend,” said Erin Lantz, vice president of mortgages at Zillow. “This week expect economic news to again take the forefront with all eyes on Wednesday’s minutes from December’s Fed meeting and Friday’s jobs report.”
Zillow’s real-time mortgage rates are based on thousands of custom mortgage quotes submitted daily to anonymous borrowers on the Zillow Mortgages site and reflect the most recent changes in the market. These are not marketing rates, or a weekly survey.
The rate for a 15-year fixed home loan is currently 3.16 percent, while the rate for a 5-1 adjustable-rate mortgage (ARM) is 3.14 percent.
Below are current rates for 30-year fixed mortgages by state. Additional states’ rates are available at: http://www.zillow.com/mortgage-rates.
