Why does everyone seem obsessed with CBD these days? Your friends tell you about their health benefits, but you feel unconvinced. They also tell you that while CBD products can come in many forms, they are particularly interested in gummies. How are they any different than a multivitamin that sounds like they can get you high?
You’re not the only one confused by the sudden popularity of CBD gummies. They sound like a fad that will fizzle out in the next few months, but here are several things people love CBD gummies for:
For their health benefits
People love CBD for its numerous health benefits. You see, your body produces molecules called “endocannabinoids,” which work with enzymes and receptors in your “endocannabinoid system” (ECS). This system is integral to maintaining your body’s equilibrium, or homeostasis. When something is off-balance, your ECS helps your body to communicate with itself and return to where it needs to be (for example, your ECS tells your stomach to growl when you’re hungry so that you know to eat and refuel).
With such a central role, your ECS is involved in an assortment of bodily functions, such as mood, sleep, digestion, temperature regulation, pain, pleasure, inflammation, and more. The reason why people love CBD is because it’s a “phytocannabinoid,” a cannabinoid that comes from the cannabis plant instead of inside your body. Ingesting CBD gives your ECS a boost, so you can use it to treat ailments like pain, insomnia, inflammation, anxiety, PTSD, etc.
Your friends might take them for any one or more of these reasons; if they’re suffering from arthritis-related pain, for example, CBD can reduce their symptoms (it is important to note that CBD is not a cure-all, though, and will not make the issues themselves go away).
They don’t get you high
If CBD comes from cannabis, won’t it get you high? No—that is THC, another cannabinoid (there are over 120 found in the cannabis plant). CBD, however, is not an intoxicant, so it will not negatively affect your state of mind. It’s not recommended that you smoke or ingest marijuana if you have anxiety because it can exacerbate paranoia, but CBD can calm your mind instead.
CBD products in the United States must also be sourced from hemp, not marijuana. Both are kinds of cannabis, but hemp has a lower THC content. CBD works better when in conjunction with a tiny amount of THC, but the US requires all CBD products to contain no more than .3 percent THC.
For their taste
Many hemp products can taste earthy, so people love CBD gummies for their deliciousness. Dropping oil under your tongue works perfectly well, but some folks would rather pop a tangerine-flavored candy into their mouths instead. You’ll have to wait a bit longer to feel the CBD’s effects while you digest, but there are all kinds of flavors out there that make taking CBD fun. Lemon, orange, cherry, chocolate, mint, apple, and more are possible.
For their fun shapes
CBD gummies are just… fun. Even if they taste delicious, why stop there and make them look like boring cubes? CBD gummies can look like bears, worms, rings, fruit chews, and all sorts of other shapes. The shape affects absolutely nothing other than your personal enjoyment for the two seconds it’s between your fingers before it’s in your mouth, but why not? As long as you don’t take too much, fun shapes and delicious flavors make eating CBD a treat.
For their ease of use
Gummies also make it easier to measure how much CBD you’re consuming. There’s guesswork involved in topicals and tinctures, but gummies should be labeled with how much CBD is in the container as a whole or each individual piece. Some gummies contain as little as 5mg, but others can have as much as 30mg or more. CBD gummies from Verma Farms come in either 12.5 or 21mg. Concentrations, which might be just the right amount to feel the relief you’re looking for.
Gummies are also easy to eat anywhere. You might not want to pull out a bottle and dropper when at work, but your pain or anxiety might not be willing to wait until you get home. No one will wonder why you’re eating a multivitamin during the day, though, so you can eat it whenever and wherever you need to.
People are obsessed with CBD gummies, and for good reason. Be careful when shopping, though—the industry is largely unregulated, so make sure you only buy from a reputable company. Do you plan on trying CBD gummies for yourself?
