Abba Atiku Abubakar announced a plan to mobilize support for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election, putting him in a different political camp from his father, BusinessDay reported Oct. 30.
Abba presented the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation (HBTO) at the All Progressives Congress (APC) national secretariat in Abuja on Oct. 30, BusinessDay reported. The group aims to build support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.
Abba said HBTO plans to establish grassroots structures nationwide and organize a march involving two million people across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. He said the organization would also work with other political groups to engage communities and communicate government policies.
Abba said HBTO would start with 10 luxury buses in Abuja and later expand elsewhere in Nigeria to ease transportation difficulties.
He said he backed Tinubu because he believed the administration was addressing long-running economic and structural problems. Among the initiatives he cited were road investment, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, transportation assistance and greater state funding distributed through the Federation Account Allocation Committee.
Abba is the son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate seeking to defeat Tinubu. BusinessDay reported that Abba had defected to the APC. He said family ties should not determine an individual’s political decision, which he described as a matter of personal judgment and conscience.
BusinessDay reported that Atiku is seeking the presidency in the Jan. 16, 2027, election. Abba identified the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Rivers State as mobilization targets, and said HBTO was preparing a major political exercise in Rivers for the following week.
The announcement adds a new organization to the campaign landscape covered in EconoTimes’ earlier report on the organizing test facing Tinubu’s challengers.
