PUNCH reported politicians from three parties attended Gov. Ademola Adeleke’s Thursday council inauguration for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election, while TheCable reported Osun APC Chairman Tajudeen Lawal said leaders had not been briefed.

Figures from Nigeria’s All Progressives Congress (APC), Accord Party and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) attended, PUNCH reported. Adeleke said the arrangement covered the presidential race, leaving participants free to back their parties’ candidates in legislative contests, according to PUNCH and BusinessDay. He set the council a vote goal exceeding 1.5 million, PUNCH and The Guardian reported. That was a campaign target, not a confirmed election result.

APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru and former APC National Secretary Iyiola Omisore attended with Osun PDP Chairman Sunday Bisi and Osun Accord Chairman Victor Akande, PUNCH reported. The outlet listed former Osun Gov. Adegboyega Oyetola, APC governorship candidate Bola Oyebamiji, Sen. Francis Fadahunsi and Lawal among prominent figures who were absent.

TheCable reported that Lawal learned of the event after Adeleke’s spokesperson posted the council membership on social media. In a statement reported by the outlet, Lawal said, “Less than 12 hours notice is so short that many people who would have been around are already shut out.” He said the party backed cooperation for Tinubu’s re-election but objected to how the inauguration was arranged.

The State House said Tinubu inaugurated the national Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja on Oct. 14; the council roster had already named Adeleke its Osun coordinator. The appointment was part of a broader coordinator roster that included politicians from other parties. The Osun State Government said Adeleke reaffirmed his endorsement of Tinubu for a second term in August.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) lists Jan. 16, 2027, for Nigeria’s presidential and National Assembly elections.
