Samsung on Wednesday officially announced the 6-inch Galaxy A9 model in China. The handset is the latest addition to Samsung’s A family that includes A7 (2016), A5 (2016), and A3 (2016) — at 5.5, 5.2, and 4.7 inches, respectively — announced at the beginning of the month, Venture Beat reported.
The super-slim (7.4mm thin), all-metal phone features full HD 1080p Super AMOLED display with 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution (~367 ppi pixel density). It is powered by 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 652 SoC with 3GB RAM. Internal storage is of 32GB which is expandable up to 128GB via microSD card.
It will run on Android 5.1 Lollipop and Marshmallow upgrade is likely to arrive gradually. The handset will come in three color variants – gold, white and pink. The A9 is equipped with 13 megapixel primary camera with f/1.9 aperture lens and 8 megapixel selfie camera.
Venture Beat says that the handset can be unlocked, and used for contactless payment, via the home button-embedded fingerprint reader. In addition to fingerprint sensor, it also supports accelerometer, gyro, compass and proximity sensors.
The device powers all these features by a powerful non-removable 4,000mAh battery. The price and availability are still not known. Also, reports suggest that the A9 will be released only in China.
