It has been over a year since the sci-fi series based on Richard K. Morgan’s book series, “Altered Carbon,” made its debut on Netflix. All fans know for now is that the production has started in the past few months. However, there is a chance that the “Altered Carbon” season 2 release date will not take place until 2020.
‘Altered Carbon’ season 2 premieres on its 2nd anniversary?
There were previous reports that “Altered Carbon” season 2 was scheduled to film in early February through late June in Vancouver. That is a shorter duration compared to the first season because the second season is anticipated to have fewer episodes than season 1.
With that, some fans might think that the time needed for post-production might be shorter as well. However, it is quite difficult to predict that since “Altered Carbon” season 2 is a sci-fi series that uses heavy CGI. Thus, having only eight episodes might not guarantee a shorter post-production time frame. In which case, a 2019 release date becomes a little more impossible.
If “Altered Carbon” season 2 is, indeed, slated for a 2020 premiere there is a big chance that Netflix would release it within the month of February. It could be close to season 1’s second anniversary in the streaming platform. Netflix has released a cast announcement trailer last February, but it did not mention even a release date window.
‘Altered Carbon’ season 2 plot: Where will Takeshi Kovacs go next?
Fans who are only familiar with the TV series adaptation may only see the cast announcement from February as mere confirmation that most cast members are newcomers. But those who have knowledge of the Morgan’s books, they would pick up a very telling clue about the “Altered Carbon” season 2 plot.
One of the new faces in “Altered Carbon” season 2 is actor Torben Liebrecht who will portray Colonel Ivan Carrera. This character was introduced in Morgan’s second book “Broken Angels” where the second season might get some of its plot inspirations.
In the book, Carrera is a high-ranking officer of a mercenary organization where Kovacs served. Carrera’s group was tasked topple down revolutionaries in a planet called Sanction IV. Given that many plot changes were spotted in season 1, Carrera’s character description might also be changed in “Altered Carbon” season 2. Meanwhile, the new sleeve of Kovacs will be portrayed by “Black Mirror” season 5 star Anthony Mackie.
