NEW YORK, April 13, 2017 -- Mary Zerlan, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been selected to join the Nursing Board at the American Health Council. She will be sharing her knowledge and expertise in Anesthesia.
With over three decades of experience in the healthcare industry, Mary utilizes her expertise in her role as Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. The Department of Anesthesiology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis places a strong emphasis on innovative education and comprehensive, personalized clinical training. It strives to foster an academic culture in which clinical care, research, and education are seamlessly integrated. Services include patient care in the areas of pre-operative evaluation, intraoperative anesthesia, post-operative critical care, and pain management.
In her current capacity as a staff Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Mary functions as an anesthesia provider at a Level I trauma center. Her scope of practice encompasses all aspects of anesthesia care: preoperative, intraoperative and post-operative. Mary began her career as an ICU nurse, where she functioned as a resource nurse and nurse educator. Upon completion of a master's degree with a sub-specialty in anesthesia, she began her career as an anesthesia provider at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
In 2012, Mary received her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Loyola University Medical College. She functions as didactic and clinical instructor for the anesthesia program at Barnes Jewish College and has accepted a part-time position in the Anesthesia Program at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.
Looking back, Mary attributes her success to a strong work ethic, her perseverance, and a passion for what she does. Her commitment has led her to be a recipient of the Excellence in Nursing Award from the Washington University Department of Anesthesiology (2015).
Out of all her achievements, Mary is most proud of her role as an editor for an international magazine. She has hosted a variety of webinars and seminars and is actively involved with the Madison County Historical Society.
In her free time, Mary enjoys yoga, gardening, walking, and spending time with her son, Collin.
Considering the future, Mary hopes to remain current on new information and technology within her field.
