Al Jazeera reported that Amnesty International’s Dutch branch estimated more than 200,000 people joined Sunday’s Amsterdam march, where demonstrators called for tighter trade restrictions on Israel and an end to arms sales.
Al Jazeera identified it as a Red Line protest and said many attendees wore red. The Netherlands’ minority coalition took office in February and introduced a ban on importing products from Israeli settlements, the outlet reported. Protesters sought broader trade limits.
An earlier Stockholm rally called for Sweden to halt arms sales to Israel.
At his Friday news conference, Prime Minister Rob Jetten said the government was trying to get Israel to meet its commitments concerning Gaza. He said officials were working “every single day and every single week” to ease conditions there.
Mike van Dongen, a marcher, described the situation in Gaza as “inhumane” and said he believed Dutch authorities were “doing nothing,” Al Jazeera reported.
