Anadolu Agency reported Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon, which it described as another ceasefire breach, drawing attention to a June framework that links troop redeployments to Lebanese security steps.
The June 26 framework, signed by Lebanon and Israel under U.S. auspices, sets out a transition in selected pilot areas. It provides for the Lebanese Armed Forces to take security responsibility while Lebanon carries out a program to disarm non-state armed groups. Israeli forces could redeploy in verified stages after those steps. The framework also aims to protect communities in northern Israel and support the safe return of Lebanese civilians.
The Associated Press (AP) reported in October that Israeli forces remained in large areas of southern Lebanon as strikes and demolitions continued during the ceasefire. Earlier EconoTimes coverage said no timetable had been set for a full Israeli withdrawal.
On Oct. 19, Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported strikes and shelling ahead of military talks in Florida, in an account of attacks before the talks. The delegations met Oct. 20 to review the June framework.
