Anthropic, PBC has reportedly assumed generator orders in a $3.4 billion deal, the Financial Times reported, as the AI company confronts power limits that can slow data-center expansion.
The reported package covers 1.7 gigawatts of heavy-duty gas-fired capacity and dates to late September, according to the newspaper. The FT said San Antonio-based OnePWR Solutions had ordered generators from Caterpillar Inc.; Anthropic took over the commitments and services to plan and build the installations. The arrangement did not include OnePWR itself, the FT reported. The newspaper said the transaction was larger than any other publicly known one-off generator-equipment deal by an AI lab.
An amended registration statement filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Nov. 2 describes electricity access as a limit on data-center expansion in several markets, including the United States. Anthropic said new power sources, transmission projects and grid connections can require years to develop.
The filing reported about $895.4 billion in aggregate commitments as of and after Sept. 30, 2026, substantially all related to compute and infrastructure. It said Anthropic expected to incur $447.5 billion of that amount before Dec. 31, 2030, while $69.8 billion was due in the 12 months after Sept. 30, 2026. The document does not identify OnePWR or say whether the generator commitments are included in the aggregate.
Anthropic has publicly pledged to cover consumer electricity price increases tied to its data centers, including costs for infrastructure needed to deliver power. The filing gives no estimate of household effects from the reported transaction.
Neither company has publicly confirmed the reported arrangement. Reuters reported that it could not immediately verify the Financial Times account.
