Apple Cuts Over 200 Siri, Vision Pro Jobs in AI Shift

Apple is cutting more than 200 jobs across teams responsible for its Siri digital assistant, Vision Pro headset and artificial intelligence features as the technology giant redirects resources toward new devices and AI development, Bloomberg reported Friday.

Around 100 positions are being eliminated from Apple’s Vision Pro division, while roughly another 100 jobs are being cut from Siri and other software teams. The restructuring also affects the Intelligent Systems Experience group, which develops AI-powered features within Apple’s software engineering organization.

The company is largely winding down a Vision Pro gaming team and reducing staff responsible for creating immersive video content for the mixed-reality headset.

Apple confirmed the restructuring to Bloomberg, saying it is realigning teams as its business and product priorities evolve. While some existing positions will disappear, the iPhone maker said it plans to create new roles and provide affected employees with opportunities to apply for other jobs within the company.

The Siri layoffs are linked to Apple’s development of a next-generation, AI-powered version of the digital assistant. The revamped Siri will operate on a new technical architecture that requires different expertise, prompting Apple to replace some positions while hiring employees with skills suited to its updated AI strategy.

Apple is also reorganizing its Intelligent Systems Experience team as artificial intelligence becomes more deeply integrated across apps, services and device features. The changes are intended to align engineering resources with priority projects and accelerate AI development.

Meanwhile, Apple is shifting some resources away from Vision Pro based on customer usage trends. The headset debuted in February 2024 and currently costs $3,699.

Despite the job cuts, Apple told employees it remains committed to Vision Pro and the visionOS operating system. Its near-term hardware strategy is increasingly focused on smart glasses, which are expected to offer a lighter experience without Vision Pro’s advanced gaming and immersive-video capabilities.

Apple is also reportedly considering another Vision Pro model that could launch as early as late 2028, suggesting the company is restructuring rather than abandoning its mixed-reality ambitions.
