Apple is directing iPhone Duo owners who encounter inner-screen trouble to AppleCare for replacement, after saying a problem affects a “small number” of its first foldable phones.
Apple did not disclose how many devices are involved. Its statement also did not specify replacement eligibility, the process or timing.
Photos shared on social media show cracks and lines along the display’s central fold. The iPhone Duo became available Oct. 23 with a 7.6-inch inner display, Apple said when introducing its first foldable iPhone.
Repair specialist iFixit examined teardown footage, patent filings and CT scans to study the hinge area. It placed the reported damage near the hinge’s central support and suggested that a support part stopping short could put pressure on the screen. Apple has not confirmed that explanation.
The development follows an earlier EconoTimes report on Apple’s acknowledgment of the display issue. Apple advises owners experiencing display problems to contact AppleCare for a replacement.
