‘Arrow’ Season 5, Episode 10 Spoilers: “Who Are You?” Teases Laurel Lance’s Real Identity After Returning from the Dead

Katie Cassidy plays Laurel Lance on The CW's 'Arrow'

‘Arrow’ season 5’s episode 10, titled “Who Are You?” is set to feature the return of Laurel Lance after returning from the dead. It was speculated that this version of Laurel may not be the heroic Black Canary but the villainous Black Siren.

The incoming episode of The CW’s action-crime television series based on the DC comic book character the Green Arrow is set to answer episode 9’s cliffhanger, where Laurel (Katie Cassidy) made a surprise return to Star City after being presumed dead.

Laurel was Oliver’s (Stephen Amell) on-and-off love interest and longtime friend. She was one of Star City’s most beloved public servants and served as a lawyer who held the position of Assistant District. She was inspired to take up vigilantism after the death of her sister and eventually joined Team Arrow to become the Black Canary.

She was stabbed to death by Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough) during his prison escape in season 4, according to Mic.com. Following her demise, Oliver publicized Black Canary’s deeds in hopes of preserving her legacy as a hero of Star City. However, Laurel reappeared on the series in episode 9 when Oliver found her waiting for him at the Arrowcave.

It was speculated that Laurel may have been resurrected by means of a Lazarus Pit, or a version of the heroine from another Earth.

Episode 10’s trailer fueled much fan speculation as it was hinted that Laurel isn’t who she seems to be. According to Cartermatt, the Laurel who returned to Star City may actually be the Earth-2 incarnation Black Siren. The character already appeared on ‘The Flash’ so it is entirely possible that she will crossover to the other “Arrowverse” series.

The teaser for the incoming episode opens with Oliver, Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards), and the rest of the team celebrating Laurel’s return. By the end, Laurel uses her seemingly inherent canary cry ability – something that Earth-1 Laurel needs a sonic device for.

Oliver tells Felicity in shock, “That’s not our Laurel!” Laurel then walks over and says, “Finally. It’s about time someone figured it out.”

During an interview with TV Line, co-showrunner Wendy Mericle teased, “[Seeing Laurel] is something that will draw Oliver’s focus for a bit, coming into the New Year.”

Mericle added, “It’s a familiar face, someone he loves and is very happy to see, and now she’s back in the flesh, so it’s a very welcome surprise. And yet as we often say, ‘nothing is really ever as it seems.’ There will definitely be a ‘dark silver lining’ when Oliver finds out what’s really going on.”

‘Arrow’ season 5’s episode 10, titled “Who Are You?” is scheduled to air on The CW on January 25, 2017. It was directed by Gregory Smith and written by Ben Sokolowski and Brian Ford Sullivan. It will be followed by episode 11, titled "Second Chances," directed by Mark Bunting.
