Rep. Jake Auchincloss said voters can identify Democrats’ opponents more readily than their priorities, highlighting a messaging issue as the party plans beyond the midterms toward the 2028 presidential race.

The Massachusetts congressman made the remarks in a CBS News interview for “The Takeout.” He said Americans “know who Democrats are against,” but not who the party is for.

Auchincloss chairs Majority Democrats, a moderate group planning a Denver summit called “What’s Next.” The group says it wants to broaden the party’s reach and sustain Democratic majorities.

Matt Corridoni, a spokesperson for Majority Democrats, said the gathering would bring Democrats from different parts of the party together to discuss how to compete in the next presidential election. EconoTimes previously reported on plans for a Denver summit focused on the party’s 2028 strategy.

CBS has described disagreements between moderate and progressive Democrats after the party’s 2024 White House loss. Denver is also one of three finalists to host the 2028 Democratic National Convention, Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin said, according to earlier EconoTimes coverage.
