Australian employment rose by 37,700 in March, adding to signs that the economy has made a reasonably healthy start to the year. (Data released on Thursday.) The March gain in employment was stronger than recent survey data had suggested.
Recent employment gains have been enough to pull down the unemployment rate to 6.1%, from 6.2% in February and 6.3% in January.
"We doubt this will last for long. With GDP growth set to slow during the rest of the year, we still expect the unemployment rate to rise to 7.0% by the end of 2015." - says Capital Economics
