Marvel fans are now excited for the upcoming “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” movie. To date, four Avengers films have been released: “The Avengers” (also known as Avengers Assemble in the United Kingdom), “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Avengers: Infinity War,” and “Avengers: Endgame.”
The last two films were a climactic double-bill that concluded the Infinity Saga, with Thanos annihilating half of all life in the cosmos and eventually fading to ash himself. That was just one saga, and two further Avengers films are already on the horizon for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So, from the release date to cast and narrative rumors, here's all we know about the imminent “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” film.
‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’ Release Date
Dexerto reported that “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” is set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026. Its release date was originally slated for May 2, 2025, but Disney moved it up a year to June 20, 2023, amid a host of big adjustments to its film schedule.
It is the third of four confirmed MCU Phase Six films, following “Deadpool 3” and “Fantastic Four,” and preceding “Avengers: Secret Wars” on May 7, 2027. Although Daniel Destin Cretton was supposed to direct, Deadline reported in November 2023 that he will be stepping down to focus on other MCU projects, including “Shang-Chi 2” and “Wonder Man.”
‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’ Cast
Jonathan Majors, who played Kang the Conqueror and debuted as He Who Remains in “Loki” and as Kang in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” may not reprise his title role. According to The Direct, Majors was arrested in late March 2023 for reportedly beating the woman he was with.
Although he appeared in “Loki” Season 2, his storyline ends in a way that would allow it to come to an end, if Marvel Studios decides to do so. Jonathan’s destiny in the MCU is currently unclear.
On November 10, Shang-Chi actor Simu Liu appeared to confirm that his character will feature in “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” in an interview with Comicbook.com. After expressing his delight with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton's selection to helm the next Avengers film, Liu stated, "I'm so excited to get to work for him again."
According to new reports, Doctor Doom may replace Kang as the main antagonist in the forthcoming Avengers films, in which case the title of “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” may alter. Of course, this is all speculative at this stage, but if this plan is implemented, the film's villain will be completely recast.
According to a recent rumor, Tom Holland will reprise his role as Spider-Man in the film and will be considered the lead. Otherwise, no official cast information has been released, but some reasonable estimates can be made.
Because it's an “Avengers” film, you can count on seeing any of the following characters Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Sebastian Stan as The Winter Soldier/White Wolf, Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Don Cheadle as War Machine, Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Benedict Wong as Wong, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Evangeline Lilly as The Wasp, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova.
‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’ Spoilers and Theories
While there are no official plot specifics at this moment, “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” may adapt portions of the Kang Dynasty comics event, which spawned a 16-part Marvel storyline between 2001 and 2002 - though it's uncertain whether Marvel plans to continue the Kang narrative.
“Kang the Conqueror has been a foe of the Avengers for decades! Now, witness his ultimate triumph, as he brings all of his vast cross-time spanning legions to bear to conquer the Earth once and for all! Can Earth’s Mightiest Heroes hold back the colossal forces arrayed against them or will they face defeat and subjugation beneath the boot of the Conqueror?” the official synopsis read.
Furthermore, while writer Jeff Loveness recently told Inverse that "the promise of this movie is to do the next generation of Avengers," reports say that he, too, has been dropped from the project as Marvel seeks to shift away from the Kang narrative. If the notion that Doctor Doom will take his position is accurate, it will have enormous ramifications for the plot moving forward.
Another possibility is that “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” will be replaced with “Avengers: Eternity Wars,” when observant fans discovered that Marvel had removed trademarks for “Eternity Saga,” “Nomad,” and “Runaways: New Era” but not for “Avengers: Eternity Wars.”
