Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will visit Japan Oct. 26-29 for talks aimed at deepening economic ties, as Dhaka considers several cooperation memorandums.

Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the official working visit and said Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi will meet Rahman and host a lunch during his stay. Anadolu Agency reported that Rahman is also expected to address the Japan-Bangladesh Economic Forum and meet Japanese business leaders.

Anadolu reported that economic and investment cooperation will be a central focus. Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam identified renewable energy, agricultural technology and human resource development as areas for discussion, the agency said.

About eight cooperation memorandums are under consideration, and Dhaka expects at least three or four to be signed during the visit, Anadolu reported. The agency put trade between the two countries at around $4 billion and described Japan as Bangladesh’s largest bilateral development partner and a major export destination.

The visit would be Rahman’s first to Japan since the Bangladesh Nationalist Party formed a government early in 2026, Anadolu said.

Separately, a worker-recruitment agreement signed last weekend is due to begin recruitment in April 2027, Anadolu reported. The agreement includes legal protections and offers Bangladeshi workers an opportunity to work in Japan, according to the agency.
