Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said on X that eight Palestinian prisoners were sent to solitary confinement after preparing a cake to celebrate if he was not elected.

Ben-Gvir posted a photograph he said showed the cake at Lavi prison. He said the prisoners had saved bread and jam over several days to make it, and urged voters to support his Jewish Power party.

Israel Hayom reported that prison staff took the cake from a cell and authorities opened disciplinary proceedings involving the eight. Ben-Gvir praised the Israel Prison Service for finding it.

Israelis vote Tuesday, Oct. 27, for party lists in the 120-seat Knesset. The Associated Press has reported that no party has ever won a Knesset majority alone, so parties negotiate to form a governing coalition after the vote. EconoTimes previously covered the election’s divisions over Palestinian statehood.
