‘Better Call Saul’ season 5: Is the series ending in the fifth installment? Things to know before it premieres

Better Call Saul

“Better Call Saul” season 5 is finally returning, but there will be lots of changes in the storyline. This is because the plot is already catching up with the “Breaking Bad” drama’s timeline as Jimmy McGill slowly transforms into his Saul Goodman character.

There is actually no surprise with the change in his character because it was revealed that from the start, since the first season, the show creators and writers have been steering the story in this direction. They have planned it to be this way since the show is actually a spinoff of the Aaron Paul-starrer drama that ended in 2013.

Cast and crew wrapped up filming of the fifth season

The shooting for “Better Call Saul” season 5 is already complete, and this was disclosed by the drama’s lead actor Bob Odenkirk. In his social media post on Sept. 5, he posted a photo with his castmates, and in the caption, he said that it is BCS S5’s wrap up party. The 57-year-old actor added that they had a blast celebrating the end of filming and praised his co-stars for being the “best cast ever.”

What does McGill’s transformation mean?

The pinnacle in “Better Call Saul” season 5 is the full transformation of the lead character, Jimmy McGill. For new viewers, this means that he is revealing a new persona that is different from who he is from the first four seasons. This good guy is turning into a monster who starts siding with the villains as he becomes blinded with power and wealth.

In other words, the gentle guy McGill is turning into a crooked lawyer who is his original character in the “Breaking Bad” drama. This turn of events may be very disappointing to the fans who love McGill, and Odenkirk actually agrees with them if they will indeed feel this way. Still, he said that the viewers must still watch the show because it is the best so far.

“It’s the best season we’ve ever done, it’s going to blow your mind, and I’m not kidding about either of those things,” Odenkirk told Deadline. “It’s awesome, and I can’t wait for people to see it.”

Is this the last season?

In any case, there is a rumor that “Better Call Saul” season 5 is the last installment in the series. This claim came out after an old interview with the show’s EP surfaced. He previously said that they do not plan to go beyond the number of seasons that “Breaking Bad” had. There is no confirmation if this is the last, but it may be clarified once the drama returns in 2020.
