‘Black Sails’ season 4’s episode 2, titled “XXX.,” is set to follow Flint and his allies struggling to cope with the aftermath of the governor’s trap in Nassau. Meanwhile, lead actor Toby Stephens talked about his character Captain Flint’s fate in a recent interview.
The synopsis for episode 2 posted on TV Guide states, “Flint (Toby Stephens) accepts Billy's (Tom Hopper) authority; Eleanor (Hannah New) has plans for Rogers (Luke Roberts); Silver (Luke Arnold) seeks help from an unlikely source; and Max (Jessica Parker Kennedy) is put on notice.”
Season 4’s premiere followed Flint, Blackbeard (Ray Stevenson) and Rackham (Toby Schmitz) as they attempted to recapture Nassau after it was set up as an essentially impenetrable fortress. A battle ensued when the governor put forth his trap.
According to Geek Dad, “XXX.” will pick up immediately after the events of episode 1. The pirates will struggle with the aftermath of the governor’s trap.
Stephens, who plays legendary swashbuckler Captain Flint, talked about the drama-adventure television series’ final season during an interview with Collider. When asked about what aspect of the series made him the most proud, he admitted, “I think it’s the fact that everybody put everything on the line. Starz really put themselves behind this, financially. The creators really wrote and created such an amazing show. The production standards were amazing. All of the actors turned up, every day, and gave it their all.”
He continued, “It’s been such a great ride, in terms of the fact that we’ve made such a complex show that is very satisfying, in so many different ways. It’s a complicated story with complex characters, that takes place against this very complex backdrop of history. It’s been such a great ride.”
When asked about Captain Flint’s fate in the final season, Stephens hinted, “Well, we know that it’s tragedy because the revolution and the emancipation that Flint wants didn’t happen… And the Golden Age of Piracy ended, so we know that it doesn’t end well. It’s just about, how does it end? This season really is the endgame for all of that. It’s also about the relationship between Silver and Flint, and how that plays out. What happens to Flint, and how does Silver become Long John Silver of Treasure Island?”
Captain Flint managed to rally other pirates and their men together to build up a massive fleet in retaliation for the death of Charles Vane (Zach McGowan), emancipation from authority, as well as the mission of taking over the British Empire.
‘Black Sails’ season 4’s episode 2, titled “XXX.,” is scheduled to air on Starz on February 5, 2017. It was directed by Alik Sakharov and will be followed by episode 3, titled “XXXI.,” scheduled for February 12.
