‘Bones’ Season 12, Episode 2 Spoilers: "The Brain in the Bot" – Team Investigates Death Possibly Linked to AI Bots, Brennan Plans Own 40th Birthday Surprise

‘Bones’ season 12’s episode 2, titled "The Brain in the Bot," is set to feature the Jeffersonian team as they investigate a death possible linked to artificial-intelligence robots. Meanwhile, Brennan plans to greet her own 40th birthday with a surprise for the team.

The brief synopsis for “The Brain in the Bot” posted on TV Guide reads, “A body is identified as a man who helped manufacture artificial-intelligence bots, and the team wonders if his own creation had something to do with his death. Meanwhile, Brennan (Emily Deschanel) plans her own surprise for everyone on her 40th birthday.”

In the incoming episode, the team must figure out whether the victim’s very own artificial-intelligence bots were programmed to kill him. The promo for episode 2 opens to Booth (David Boreanaz) declaring his shock of evidence scattered all over the crime scene.

Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) jokes that the scene is not as “mysterious” as Brennan’s upcoming 40th birthday. When Cam (Tamara Taylor) pressed Brennan for the party’s dress code, Brennan retorts, “Wearing clothes would be advisable.”

In the next scene, Brennan comments that no human being could inflict so much damage on another person and the team comes to a conclusion that a robot may have been responsible for the murder. By the end of the trailer, Booth discovers a crate with a female robot inside.

The promotional photographs posted on Buddy TV showed the Jeffersonian team investigating a crime scene. Hodgins is seen in a wheelchair accompanied by a well-groomed poodle while Booth looked spiffy and serious in a white button down and striped tie. Brennan and Daisy (Carla Gallo) are also seen back in the laboratory examining their most recent finds.

Meanwhile, it looks as though Brennan has a birthday surprise planned for the team for her own 40th birthday. The forensic anthropologist is seen surrounded by her friends and colleagues as they toast to her new year in life as they are surrounded by balloons and presents. The scene looks warm and light-hearted despite the episode’s seemingly macabre plot line.

‘Bones’ season 12’s episode 2, titled "The Brain in the Bot," is scheduled to air on Fox on January 10, 2017. It will be followed by episode 3, titled "The New Tricks in the Old Dogs," scheduled for January 17.
