Bose is recalling about 634,759 battery packs for its S1 Pro and S1 Pro+ speakers after reports of overheating and fire prompted safety warnings in the United States and Canada.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said seven reports described a pack melting, giving off smoke or catching fire; six also cited property damage. The agency reported no injuries, and Health Canada said none had been reported worldwide.
The U.S. recall covers about 634,759 packs. Health Canada lists 35,399 sold in Canada, close to CPSC’s rounded estimate of about 35,400. The packs were sold with speakers or separately as accessories and replacement parts. Sales ran from December 2017 through July 2026. A battery sold on its own cost $100 to $160, while speaker systems packaged with one were priced at $700, CPSC said.
Health Canada linked the hazard to continued use as packs age, which may put their lithium-ion cells in conditions that can damage them. Owners can check the 17-digit serial number on the label beneath a pack. Affected numbers start with 083723, 078352, 084105, 078591, 078592, 084106 or 086409. Bose says separately purchased Bose packs should be checked, including by owners whose S1 Pro system came without a battery.
Bose offers a free replacement for affected packs. Its instructions tell owners to take a matching pack out of service and remove it from the speaker before submitting a request. The speaker can still run on AC power without the battery.
For disposal, CPSC says owners should contact their municipality or local hazardous-waste center. Recalled packs should stay out of household garbage, regular recycling and retail battery drop boxes. The CPSC dated its U.S. recall notice Nov. 5.
