Briferendum Aftermath Series: EC’s Tusk talks tough on Brexit

European Council’s president Donald Tusk dismissed the idea of an informal talk with Britain on what kinds of terms that would be acceptable for an orderly exit or what would be the new approach towards Britain saying that such a talk will not be in the interest of the members who stayed. Donald Tusk is among the moderates who prefer fresh approach in the European Union to the better binding of the members rather than hardliners who would like to make an example of Britain for leaving the European Union.

Following a meeting with the leaders of Luxembourg and Slovenia, Mr. Tusk said, “Our principle of no notification, no negotiations is there to protect those who stay together, not the one leaving. We shall not give it up”. The EU leaders made it clear to UK Prime Minister Theresa May that without the triggering of the exit clause there would be no talks on the terms of departure. UK parliament will debate and hold a vote on the timing of the Brexit trigger.

However, with regard to integration, Mr. Tusk maintained his moderate tone by saying that the European Union will have to restore faith by serving people, guaranteeing protection and sharing information.
