Briferendum Aftermath Series: For the Labour Party it’s Eagle vs. Corbyn

Angela Eagle, who has been a member of the Parliament (MP) since 1992 has entered the leadership contest and has challenged the position of Jeremy Corbyn, who was elected last September by an overwhelming majority.

Jeremy Corbyn chose to stick on to his positions despite losing a no-confidence vote among the members of the Parliament. 172 lawmakers voted against him, while 40 members supported. Mr. Corbyn has argued that he became the leader of the party by supports from grass root members and to resign would be equivalent to betraying them. We at FxWirePro has found his arguments strong and have the view that he shouldn’t go for resignation at least not without a leadership contest. However, Mr. Corbyn’s move has deeply divided the party at a time, when unity is most cherished amid all the turbulence.

Angela Eagle said that her bid is not to divide the party and to help the nation heal. Though she is quite the favorite among many and especially among the MPs, there is a strong possibility that Mr. Corbyn may win again due to his grass root supports. She has accused Corbyn of failing to campaign hard enough to make people rally behind a stay in the European Union.

On the other side of the political spectrum, Theresa May will be fighting Andrea Leadsom for the leadership position in the conservative party.
