Briferendum Aftermath Series: Key timeline in Conservative Party Election

As of today, conservative party election has started and this time, there are five contestants, Theresa May, Stephen Crabb, Michel Gove, Andra Leadsom, and Liam Fox. Whoever gets elected will have one of the toughest political environment ever and will be a key deciding force behind Britain’s future in the European Union.

Conservative Party leadership election is quite a long process, here is the timeline -

  • Today, July 5th is the date of the first ballot, where members of the Parliament (MPs) will vote to narrow down the list from five to four.
  • Next vote is on July 7th when MPs will vote to narrow down the number of contestants to three.
  • On July 12th, MPs will vote to pick the final two.
  • July-August will see the vote being open to all conservative party members in the whole country.
  • On September 9th, the new leader will be announced.

There is a Party Conference scheduled for October and the new leader will have his major debut there.
