Briferendum Aftermath Series: No bilateral deals for UK in EU

There will be no cherry picking for Britain in the post-Brexit negotiations with the European Union and there will be no separate bilateral trade deal between a member state and the United Kingdom. These are the strict messages that are circulating in the European continent. While the United Kingdom will not be punished for leaving the EU, it will also not be allowed to get a better deal than a membership. The European leaders made it clear that a membership has to be superior.

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said that there may be a situation where the UK might wish for or attempt to make separate trade deals with some member countries or some sector of certain industries but it is in the interest of the European Union to have no such special discussions.

In addition to that, the European Union has warned the United Kingdom to not to engage in any bilateral trade deals with any country unless the Brexit negotiations are done with as it violates the treaty, in response to US President Donald Trump’s offer to make a fast deal with the United Kingdom. Mr. President has so far been critical of the EU and praised the people of the UK for Brexit.
