Briferendum Aftermath Series: Prime Minister promises general debate on Brexit

British Prime Minister Theresa May has promised her parliamentarian colleagues that there will be series of general debates on Brexit, however, she also mentioned that the government won’t be providing greater details as it doesn’t want to reveal all of its calling cards before the negotiations with the European Union begin. The United Kingdom is expected to trigger the divorce clause Article 50 by March next year. After returning from the European summit in Brussels, Mrs. May, speaking at the House of Commons said that there will be debates and discussions on high-level principles around Brexit before and after Christmas but stressed that her government “must not show its hand in details”.

Despite her remarks, many of her colleagues, including Labour party leader Jeremy Corbyn called for more clarity on UK’s access to the single market, whether that could be a red line for the government or not. She didn’t divulge into details but said that she believes that the United Kingdom could achieve a smooth Brexit if the negotiations could be kept constructive.

The pound has taken a dive in recent weeks after it was revealed that Britain could go for hard negotiations. The pound is currently trading at 1.223 against the dollar.
