Hundreds of workers who supply some of Britain’s top fast-food chains Pizza Express, KFC, Zizzi, Burger King, Wagamama, and Pizza Hut began voting yesterday on a call for strike action over pay.
Bestfood Logistics employs staff represented by the GMB union to deliver food to the chains.
The workers have rejected a wage offer of just 6 percent, less than half of September’s retail price index inflation rate of 12.6 percent.
Any walkouts could leave the famous brands short of supplies in the run-up to the festive period, GMB warned.
National officer Nadine Houghton said that while Bestfood’s parent companies Booker and Tesco are making plenty of money, showering shareholders with dividends, but needs to use some of that cash to look after the people who keep their business going.
