CBS News averaged 2.63 million viewers in primetime Tuesday, the lowest among six U.S. outlets covering the midterm elections, according to figures CNN Chief Media Analyst Brian Stelter shared on X.
Stelter’s post ranked NBC first at 6.52 million average viewers, followed by ABC at 4.91 million. Cable channels CNN, MS NOW and Fox News followed at 3.93 million, 3.92 million and 3.88 million, respectively. The CBS figure included 715,000 viewers ages 25 to 54, The Independent reported.
The Independent also reported a narrower comparison from Variety senior TV editor Brian Steinberg, who said CBS had the lowest audience among major broadcast networks. Steinberg cited people familiar with early Nielsen data in an X post, the outlet said. Stelter’s figures covered six outlets, including cable networks.
The Independent also reported on changes at CBS News following David Ellison’s takeover of Paramount. Bari Weiss was named editor-in-chief of CBS News, the outlet said.
