CBS News projected Republican Sen. Ashley Moody as the winner over Democrat Angie Nixon in Florida’s Nov. 3 Senate race, putting her on track to complete the term vacated by Marco Rubio.
Moody, 51, joined the Senate through a 2025 appointment after Rubio left the seat. The term is scheduled to end in early 2029. Before entering the Senate, Moody served as Florida’s attorney general; her earlier work included commercial litigation and federal prosecution.
Nixon, 42, has represented parts of the Jacksonville area in Florida’s legislature since 2020. CBS reported that she won the Democratic primary against a more moderate candidate.
CBS described Florida as having moved toward Republicans in recent years and noted that President Donald Trump carried the state by 13 points in 2024. In the run-up to the election, New York Times/Siena polling put Moody six points ahead in Florida.
