A Spanish-language ad aimed at Hispanic men is part of the Texas governor’s race, with CBS News reporting a planned DAZN placement and a political action committee confirming a same-titled spot.
CBS News reported Oct. 31 that a 30-second “No Te Dejes” ad was scheduled for DAZN’s Canelo Álvarez–Christian M'Billi fight. DAZN lists the bout in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for Oct. 31. The reported ad placement is unverified outside CBS News: Somos PAC’s announcement confirms a 30-second ad with the same title but does not name DAZN or establish that it is the spot CBS described.
Somos PAC said it funded a six-figure Spanish-language digital campaign supporting Democratic gubernatorial candidate Gina Hinojosa. The PAC’s Oct. 26 announcement says its ads were not authorized by any candidate or candidate’s committee. It frames the contest around Hinojosa’s affordability plans and Republican Gov. Greg Abbott’s support for data centers.
Hinojosa’s policy page calls for a moratorium on new data-center projects until lawmakers establish protections, as well as an end to industry tax incentives. Abbott campaign press secretary Eduardo Leal told CBS News that Hinojosa’s policies did not match what he called “the values of the Hispanic community.”
Polling shows Hinojosa leading among Hispanic voters, while Abbott leads statewide in both surveys. A CBS News/YouGov poll of 1,492 registered Texas voters, conducted Oct. 8-16, found Abbott ahead 52% to 48% among likely voters; among likely Hispanic voters, Hinojosa led 61% to 38%. A later N+ Univision/YouGov poll, conducted Oct. 13-21, put Hinojosa ahead 52% to 43% among registered Hispanic voters and Abbott ahead 48% to 46% statewide. The polls surveyed different voter groups, and neither reported results specifically for Hispanic men.
Edison exit-poll estimates put 2024 Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump at 55% and Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris at 44% among Hispanic voters in Texas. CBS News also cited Democrat Ruben Gallego’s 2024 Arizona Senate campaign, which used boxing watch parties and other events to reach Latino men; Gallego won while Trump carried Arizona by nearly six percentage points.
Texas voters are scheduled to choose their governor on Nov. 3.
