U.S. inflation markets have used Consumer Price Index (CPI) futures and threshold-based event contracts, giving traders separate ways to follow consumer-price readings as they change over time.
Kalshi’s CPI event markets depend on whether the index passes a chosen threshold. Headline CPI includes food and energy prices; core CPI excludes both.
CPI futures debuted at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange in February 2004 and recorded an average of 98 contracts daily during that month.
Inflation swaps are privately negotiated derivatives that trade over the counter.
