LAS VEGAS, Oct. 11, 2016 -- Calling all developers: global payments company Worldpay is returning to the findev stage as a sponsor of the third annual Money20/20 Hackathon in Las Vegas, Oct. 22-23, for 24 hours of intense competition and innovation. Teams will have just 24 hours to battle for cash, prizes and international recognition while showcasing their skills and vision for the fintech industry using the APIs, SDKs and supporting tools from Worldpay’s new omni-channel payments platform.
“Worldpay could not be more thrilled to return to the Money20/20 Hackathon as a sponsor,” said Joe Kleinwaechter, Vice President of Innovation & Design, Worldpay US. “Supporting the next generation of payments disruptors has always been at the core of our values as a business, and the Hackathon is a unique opportunity for developers from all over the world to experience firsthand the breadth, depth and simplicity of our new single integration technology. From our award-winning REST APIs, to new SDKs for iOS, Android and Windows, we’re sure this year’s solutions will showcase a level of richness the competitors will find very rewarding.”
Participants at this year’s Hackathon will be tasked with developing an innovative application or solution that enhances the consumer’s purchasing experience – whether in-store or online. The tools could range from a strategic business solution to help merchants drive sales and improve customer satisfaction, to a unique consumer-facing application with payments seamlessly integrated within.
In addition to any advanced hardware the participating teams have available (such as wearables or beacons), participants can take advantage of any Worldpay API feature – from Vault to Recurring Billing, as well as 50 user-defined fields that could be leveraged for additional business insights or data analytics.
Competitors will have four ways to develop into Worldpay’s systems: the award-winning, single-stack and language-agnostic REST API integrations, a language-agnostic Windows SDK, an iOS SDK that allows iPhone and iPad developers to work natively in the iOS language, Objective-C, and an Android SDK for developers looking to work in Java.
"With the support and dedication of leading payments and financial services innovators like Worldpay, the Money20/20 Hackathon has quickly been established as a premier event for the world’s best developers,” said Rob Wells, Marketing Director, Money20/20. “We’re incredibly excited to partner with the Worldpay team for the second consecutive year in our continued commitment to drive rapid advancement in fintech.”
Last year’s Money20/20 Hackathon was an unequivocal success for the Worldpay team, with more developers using Worldpay APIs than any other sponsor at the show. Some developers even changed course from their original challenge choice after hearing from other teams how intuitive and easy-to-use Worldpay’s tools were. In the end, the winning team, XoomThru, used Worldpay’s API to create a new solution aimed at enhancing a customer’s drive-through experience at fast food restaurants.
This year Worldpay is looking to have another successful Hackathon with new prizes and rewards. Each member of the winning team will receive a $500 gift card, Oculus Rift + ASUS Oculus Ready G20CB-WS71 Desktop PC Bundle, and an Everyday Backpack 30L, a Kickstarter-based gear bag perfect for carrying the Oculus Rift bundle. Money20/20 will also be awarding five $20,000 prizes and five $5,000 prizes to ten teams, with the overall winning team earning the chance to present their solution as part of the Money20/20 StartupPitch180 program. Winners will be judged on creativity, simplicity, impact and design.
