Carnegie Technologies Announces Launch of Carnegie Labs

AUSTIN, Texas and SAN ANTONIO, Jan. 04, 2017 -- Carnegie Technologies, developers of the Network Convergence Platform for mobile network operators, wireline carriers, Internet service providers and smart car manufacturers, announced today the launch of Carnegie Labs, its new research and development division that will drive Carnegie’s product innovation pipeline, as well as spearhead technology due diligence for the Company’s investments, strategy, and partnerships. 

Carnegie Labs is focused on creating specific solutions for next-generation mobile telecommunications networks to allow people and machines to communicate effectively from every corner of the world.  Its innovations will empower mobile operators, MSOs, telco operators, and enterprises with solutions that drive revenue and enhance end user experiences.   Carnegie Labs is an active participant in technology standards meetings, including Wi-Fi, 3GPP, IEEE, and IoT, and is the primary evaluator of partners, suppliers, and investments for Carnegie Technologies’ product pipeline. 

The first official Labs project is named SatBridge, a satellite access point with patent-pending smart antenna technology that provides up to eight times the signal gain of standard hand-held satellite phones as well as horizon-to-horizon satellite tracking.  SatBridge allows any smartphone to access satellite service via a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth link, and a Visitor Location Register (VLR) is planned as a software upgrade to allow follow-me roaming onto satellite networks.  Carnegie has been working in collaboration with Southwest Research Institute^® (SwRI^®), a United States defense contractor and one of the oldest and largest independent, nonprofit, applied research and development organizations in the U.S., on the design and testing of SatBridge’s beam steering antenna.

Carnegie Labs is led by CTO Paul Struhsaker.  Paul was previously CTO of Dell’s Client Solutions Group where he was responsible for technology strategy, innovation pipeline, technology incubation, and thought leadership.  Paul’s other roles included SVP Software Engineering at Comcast NBC Universal, VP of Engineering at Cablevision Systems, VP Silicon Platform at Motorola PCS, and CTO Broadband at Texas Instruments.  He was also a founder and CTO of two successful startups: Wi-Fi innovation leader Aironet Wireless (acquired by Cisco) and 4G wireless innovator Raze Technologies.
