Helena, Ala., Sept. 06, 2017 -- Nature enthusiasts can explore India’s remote Assam region — home to rare wildlife, tea plantations and tribal villages — under the guidance of celebrity wildlife expert Joan Embery as she hosts International Expeditions’ March 15, 2018 voyage taking in Kaziranga National Park and the Brahmaputra River.
“I was impressed that International Expeditions supports local conservation efforts and strives to educate its passengers about all aspects of the region,” said Embery of her previous experiences with IE in the Amazon, Galapagos Islands and Tanzania. “They are an excellent example of ecotourism at its best!”
As goodwill ambassador to the San Diego Zoo’s Zoological Society of San Diego, Joan Embery has been one of the world’s most high-profile wildlife conservation advocates for over three decades. A professional Fellow of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, she founded her own non-profit foundation, which connects people to wildlife and conservation issues and the role each individual plays in insuring healthy environments. Embery is perhaps best known for her thousands of appearances with animals on talk shows such as The Tonight Show (both with Johnny Carson and Jay Leno), Good Morning America and Live With Regis & Kathy Lee.
International Expeditions’ India river cruise takes in one of the last parks to find the Asian one-horned rhino – India’s Kaziranga National Park. In addition to excursions watching for the rare rhino, IE guests can spot seven species of primate, including endangered western hoolock gibbon, and gangetic dolphin.
Guests also enjoy a range of experiences designed to survey India’s cultural heritage. Other included excursions will have guests sampling tea at a family-hosted lunch on a tea estate, learning about silk weaving, watching masked performances and meeting Kamlabari Satra priests.
After days spent exploring the wilds of India, guests return to the deluxe 23-cabin Mahabaahu. During their five-night Brahmaputra cruise, travelers may enjoy views of the snow-covered Himalayas during morning yoga on the top deck, lectures by marine and environmental experts, or curling up with a book in the well-stocked library. Other amenities onboard include an inviting pool and spa.
Prices for the 12-day Brahmaputra River cruise hosted by Joan Embery start at $7,198, and include all accommodations, excursions, transfers, tips to service staff and bottled water throughout.
