Crypto analyst ChartNerd’s monthly comparison of XRP (XRP) against Bitcoin (BTC) highlights three historical returns to a low ratio band, a pattern he associates with later relative gains.
His analysis focuses on relative performance. The XRP/BTC ratio tracks how XRP fares against Bitcoin, while XRP/USD expresses its value in dollars. ChartNerd’s chart places the two measures together and marks a demand zone toward the ratio’s lower boundary. The dollar chart and the ratio answer different questions: whether XRP is rising in dollars, and whether it is gaining on Bitcoin.
The ratio has repeatedly failed to clear a resistance area since 2020, ChartNerd says, and its peaks near 2021 and 2025 were lower than earlier ones. In his view, another move into the lower band would need to come before XRP could show a lasting period of outperformance against Bitcoin.
Between April and October 2024, the chart shows the ratio back near its lower area. XRP’s dollar price later neared $3.65 in July 2025; ChartNerd cites that chronology as historical context, not a price objective.
For the late-2020 episode, ChartNerd points to XRP’s dollar-price low coming before its relative performance against BTC improved. Bitcoin went on to reach a new all-time high, while XRP lagged; XRP later mounted a catch-up rally. For the April-July 2014 episode, the chart places XRP/USD’s low around June, followed by a higher trough before the 2017-18 rally.
ChartNerd says XRP lagged Bitcoin for at least eight years, through a period of repeated BTC records, and later rose above its 2018 peak. He reads that sequence as evidence that XRP’s strongest relative moves may come in a later phase of Bitcoin’s cycle. In a recovery from a bear market, he says, Bitcoin could attract capital first, with XRP seeing larger inflows later. His scenario does not specify when, or whether, the ratio would revisit the band.
