‘Chicago PD’ season 4’s episode 16, titled “Emotional Proximity," will feature a crossover between the original series ‘Chicago Fire’ as well as its spin-off ‘Chicago Justice.’ The team will investigate a case of a massive fire that left Olinksy’s daughter in critical condition.
The synopsis for “Emotional Proximity” posted on TV Guide reads, “The team hunts the arsonist responsible for the massive fire that left Olinsky's (Elias Koteas) daughter in critical condition.”
The upcoming episode is set to feature the team as they investigate a massive fire that left Olinsky’s daughter’s life hanging in the balance. Intelligence is determined to race against time to track down and subdue the suspect. Voight (Jason Beghe) will open the case, knowing full well that he has his team’s full support as well as Assistant State Attorney Stone’s (guest star Philip Winchester).
Firehouse 51 is set to examine the origins of the fire, which may open up clues leading to the perpetrator. They will find the connection between the people inside the building, as well as the owner, and will bring out a list of potential suspects.
The tragedy will begin with a factory ravaged by flames, trapping workers inside. Unfortunately, Olinsky’s daughter is one of the victims and ends up needing immediate medical care. It was revealed that the fire was intentional.
Voight will find that the case will be unlike any he’s worked on before since it involves an emotional turn of events, especially for Olinksy.
According to Cartermatt, episode 16’s storyline will involve a three-part crossover with ‘Chicago Fire’ as well as the spin-off ‘Chicago Justice.’ It will also feature some characters from ‘Chicago Med.’
It seems that the case will be an important one since all of the various departments in Chicago will be mobilized. It remains unknown whether Olinsky’s daughter will pull out alive following the traumatic event.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Dick Wolf revealed that the crossover involved a lot of preparation. Wolf said, "Nothing remotely like this has ever been done with a three-hour block of programming… [It's] very challenging, but a great story and something I think that will keep people sitting there for all three hours.”
He continued, “Each one has a slightly different variation on the same theme. Each hour is giving you new information and moving toward a great courtroom conclusion."
The upcoming episode will also feature Ruzek’s (Patrick John Flueger) next steps following his return to the intelligence unit.
‘Chicago PD’ season 4’s episode 16, titled “Emotional Proximity," is scheduled to air on March 1, 2017 on NBC.
